Astrophysics

the branch of astronomy concerned with the physical nature of stars and other celestial bodies, and the application of the laws and theories of physics to the interpretation of astronomical observations.

Definitions

  • Constellation - A pattern of stars visible from Earth that are not gravitational bounded. Example: The big dipper.
  • Galaxies - stars, gas, and dust held together by gravitational forces. Example: The Milky Way.
  • Gravity - the force that attracts a body toward any physical body having mass. Unless you leave earth, it is earth.
  • Light Year - is a unit of measurement. It is the distance traveled by light in one year. One light year is approximately 9.46 x 10^15m.
  • Mass - is a unit of measurement of how much matter is in an object. Mass is a combination of the total number of atoms, the density of the atoms, and the type of atoms in an object.
  • Planet - A celestial body that orbits a star. Example: earth.
  • Planetary system - Gravitationally bounded non-stellar objects in orbit around a star or star system. Example: Our solar system consisting of the planets, moons, comets, and drawf planets.
  • Star, single - A luminous sphere of plasma held together by its own gravity. Example: The Sun

Planet Sizes

Solar System - scale

On a dry lakebed in Nevada, a group of friends build the first scale model of the solar system with complete planetary orbits: a true illustration of our place in the universe.

Solar System - motion

This is the closest, simplistic, and best model of how our solar system travels around the Milky Way.

Gravitational Pull of the Planets

All the planets exert a gravitational pull on Earth, but except for the sun and moon, the magnitude of this pull is basically negligible. If you express the tidal forces, of all other planets in terms of the moon's force, the results are as follows:
  • Moon: 1
  • Sun: 0.4
  • Venus: 6 × 10-5
  • Jupiter: 3 × 10-6
  • Mercury: 4 × 10-7
  • Saturn: 2 × 10-7
  • Mars: 5 × 10-8
  • Uranus: 3 × 10-9
  • Neptune: 8 × 10-10

Summary

This is just one of the legs of my theory that climate change is caused by forces beyond human's control. You would need a basic understanding of the Solar System's motion. This is a work in progress.
